This oral literature, known as Telugu janapada sahityamu, is considered a storehouse of wisdom accumulated over hundreds or thousands of years.
Numerous folk art forms: There are over 160 folk art forms in the Telugu-speaking regions, with Telangana having a particularly large number performed by traditional artist communities. Many of these art forms follow the "Tyaagam" tradition, where artists receive cash and kind from their respective communities.
Storytelling communities: Telangana has several important narrative communities that specialize in storytelling and genealogy recitation. Some examples include Addamsingvallu, Chinduvallu, Budige Jangaalu, Veedhi Bhagavatulu, and Ogguvallu. These storytellers are spread across various districts of Telangana.
